Life-changing whole house adaptation in Cardiff

Sometimes the need to Stairlifts and Homelifts comes unexpectedly.

One of our customers was married with a young child when he became quadriplegic after a workplace accident. Along with the emotional trauma, accidents that affect mobility also bring many practical challenges, like figuring out how to live comfortably and safely at home.

After the accident, the family realized they needed to move and began considering the adaptations they would need in their new home. They reached out to us during their search because they wanted to make sure the house they bought could accommodate a home lift installation.

Getting expert advice on home lift installation

Reaching out to Stairlifts and Homelifts for advice before buying a new house was a great decision.

Lee not only explained how a home lift could be installed in different types of properties but also highlighted other adaptations that could make their home more comfortable and accessible.

By working closely with the couple and their care team, we were able to plan a complete home adaptation that maximized their independence.

Keeping the home safe and warm

A home lift for freedom across all areas of the house

Without a home lift, our customer would have been limited to just one area of the house, missing out on family life. Installing a lift was the main reason Kelly reached out to us; she understood how essential it would be for their new life together.

We installed the Terry Harmony FE, the largest lift we offer, between the dressing room and a downstairs sitting room. Since our customer uses a heavy motorized wheelchair, this lift was the perfect choice.

We positioned the lift in the heart of the house to ensure he wouldn’t feel isolated from daily family activities. The location of mobility adaptations really impacts how a household functions, and it’s not uncommon for someone with a disability to feel separated if they can’t access key parts of the home.

Plus, we connected the lift to the Loxone smart home system, allowing our customer to control it through an app. This feature is crucial for helping him maintain a sense of independence.

A bathroom that’s relaxing and safe

The bathroom was designed to be fully accessible and features a smart bidet toilet and a spa bath. These changes transformed the space into a stylish, modern oasis for washing and relaxing. The hoist, bath, and toilet were all thoughtfully designed to ensure that carers can assist our customer in a way that is both safe and dignified.

We know that all our work is vital to the quality and comfort of our customer’s lives. Without careful planning and expert adaptation our customer could easily be trapped in one part of his house unable to participate in family life. At the end of this 6 month project, we felt proud to have helped to make a fantastic home for Richard.
